∑Rick Lazio Endorsement Withdrawn Due to His Support for Civil Unions.
∑Show Up and Cast A Ballot Even If You Don't Vote for a Candidate.
What:Our previous announcement recommended Mr. Rick Lazio in the Republican Gubernatorial Primary, tomorrow, Tuesday, September 14, 2010. This announcement retracts the endorsement of Mr. Lazio and recommends casting a ballot with no candidate selected for governor in the Republican primary.
I. Why Endorsement is Being Withdrawn.
Our endorsement of Mr. Lazio was based on our fear that his opponent, Mr. Carl Paladino, displayed a desire to exercise the power of the Governorship in a manner that appears completely arbitrary and autocratic, with contempt for the rule of law. Mr. Paladino has repeatedly stated that he plans to use the power of "eminent domain" to seize the plot of land slated to house the "Ground Zero Mosque," which is private property. (See the Guardians Report, issue 5, "Hatred Un-Moqued," at www.zehjournal.com). Mr. Lazio advocated a far more level-headed approach in that debate. He called for Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to investigate into the sources of the mosque's funding, as it is a state-registered charitable institution.
However, it has come to our attention that Mr. Lazio has previously taken a public position in favor of "civil unions," a legal invention that was specifically designed to give official recognition to homosexual conduct. Public support for measures that legitimize homosexual conduct are incompatible with responsible government. The only relationships which are the proper setting for intimate affections between people are the relationship between a man and a wife. G-d Almighty created the human species as a binary set of complementary halves, man and women, and the proper context for the powerful pleasures of intimate contact is in the context of marriage.
Even if this society is awash in promiscuity, lust and pornography, we cannot abandon our principles in one of the fundamental moral responsibilities of the human race. Some of the most highly respected Torah authorities of this generation have ruled that it is forbidden to give money, votes or public support to candidates who have made public statements that seek to normalize the sin of homosexuality. (See attached, December 2009 ruling).
For this reason, we are withdrawing our endorsement of Mr. Lazio. We remain skeptical about the fitness of Mr. Paladino to assume the most powerful elected seat of State Government. For this reason, we recommend showing up to the polls and casting a ballot, but leaving the space for governor blank. Neither candidate appears to be worthy at this time of the backing of righteous voters.
II. Blank Vote for Democratic Attorney General.
Along the same lines, every candidate running in the Democratic primary for New York State Attorney General has declared his or her support for "same sex marriage." Such a position encourages people to accept behavior that is morally corrupt as mainstream, and renders each of these candidates unfit to assume the post of attorney general.
III. Why Cast a Blank Vote?
The votes of each neighborhood are counted to determine how involved the people of the community are in their governmental leadership. Your vote has a direct effect on the amount of respect that politicians give to our communities. If people don't vote, politicians do not take our communities seriously, as they have nothing to gain and nothing to fear from them. Therefore, anyone who cares about money for our schools and social services, and who howls at the morally corrupt and foolish measures being advocated by our elected leaders, should show up and cast a ballot, even if you do not vote for a single candidate.
ENCOURAGE YOUR NEIGHBORS AND FAMILY, AND SHOW UP TOMORROW, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 and VOTE!
