February 17, 2012 Honorable Delegates of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland:
It is with awe that I approach the single most powerful voting block in the Maryland House of Delegates. The love and brotherhood of our black neighbors is a paragon of unity and cooperation for all Americans. Black people have always prevailed when they stick together.
But also, with a heavy heart that I come before you today, in the middle of this Black History Month, the month of Lincoln. Because there are people today who are trying to steal your history. Everything your parents marched for and your grandparents prayed for and your great-grandparents could only dream, is being co-opted by a bunch of troublemakers.
You all know what the debate is about today. It is outrageous that any thinking person can compare the horror and cruelty that has been inflicted on black people with the complaints of this bunch of confused desires. Yes, this is America. We should be respectful of our neighbors. We should give everybody a fair deal. But somebody has to tell these people, back off!
I speak to you today as an Orthodox Jew. I don’t think I need me to tell you that the Bible says that it’s a sin to have relations with someone of your own gender. Now, we don’t go around imposing a theocracy in America. But certain values are at the rock bottom of our country and they need to be respected. This is not just a question of choosing among different philosophies. G-d Almighty holds in His hands alone the soul of every human being. He created marriage as the vehicle for new souls to enter the world. Gay people can’t make souls, they destroy them. If you don’t use the power that’s been given to you today, every blessing that a man enjoys can be seized back in an instant!
I beg you today, Honorable Delegates, to stand together and stand strong to protect the souls of our brothers in Maryland, and all of America along with them. You stand to earn unimaginable reward for your wise and noble actions to uphold the will of G-d Almighty, as taught by the Torah of Moses, this day.
Thank you for the countless benefits you have brought to our people and your for wise guidance of the great state of Maryland. May G-d Almighty bring you His peace and blessings to your families according to your actions to strengthen the honor of His will in this world.
Respectfully submitted, Dovid Z. Schwartz Director, Community Guardians Group
